RossRail won the former Central Trains,
Midland Mainline and Silverlink franchises in 1999, and set about
reorganising them on a regional basis and setting them up for massive
expansion. Key to this was the split of the former Central Trains into
three, InterRegio focusing on express long distance routes, theMetro in
the West Midlands, and emnet in the East Midlands. theMetro merged with
Travel Midland Metro soon after, and RossRail holds a 60% stake in the
joint company.
We have never stood still, investing
over £3 billion since 1999 in massive track and station upgrades,
electrification, new junctions and over 600 new trains, trams and Civis
vehicles. We now carry around 500 million passengers a year, and will
continue to grow as the new suburban networks in the East Midlands and
Potteries mature.
We are strong believers in the railway
as part of the community and here you can find our policy and strategy
